Visa Fees

Geographical Information: Capital-Kathmandu, Nepal

A. Passport: Passport required.

Passport Exemptions
  • Nationals of India and Nepal holding proof of nationality and coming from India.

  • Holders of refugee travel documents.

Document Validity:
Passport and/or passport replacing documents must be valid on arrival. Crew: Members: Same regulations as per passenger apply.

B. Visa: Visa requires.

Visa Exemptions:
  • Nationals of Nepal.

  • Nationals of India

  • Holders of residence/re-entry permits issued by Nepal to alien residents.

TWOV (Transit Without Visa):
Visa not required for those continuing on the same day and holding onwards or return tickets. 
Merchant Seamen:
Nepal has no sea harbour, therefore Merchant Seamen cannot be traveling on duty to Nepal.

Visa Issuance:
1. Prior to arrival:
If required, visas can be obtained at representations of Nepal are established in Australia (Sydney), Bangladesh (Dhaka), China (Peoples Rep.) ( Beijing, Lasha-Tibet), Egypt (Cairo), France (Paris;also for Italy), Germany ( BadGodesberg), India (Calcutta and Delhi), Malaysia(Rasah Camp-Seremban), Myanmar (Yangon), Netherlands (Amsterdam), Pakistan (Karachi), Russian Fed. (Moscow), Spani (Madrid), Thailand (Bangkok), United Kingdom (London) and U.S.A. ( NewYork and Washington D.C).

2. On Arrival:
If required, a tourist visa can be issued for a stay of 21,22,23: 

  • 15 days: USD 25.

  • 30 days: USD 40.

  • 90 days: USD 100.


Fees to be paid in USD or equivalent in convertible currency. Exempt from visa fees are: 

  • Children under 10 years of age.

  • Those of Nepalese descent ( at least one parent being a Nepalese national) younger than 16 years of age, irrespective of nationality.

2.1. Nationals of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are exempt of the visa fee up to 30 days. 

3. On arrival:
If required, business visa(multiple entry) can be obtained from the Department of Immigration fro a period of 1 year or 5 years on the recommendation of the Ministry of Industry. 23, 21, 22 
Fee: the equivalent of USD 100 and USD 300 respectively, in Nepalese currency. Fees have to be paid in USD or equivalent in convertible currency. Exempt from visa fees are:

  • Children under 10 years of age.

  • Those of Nepalese descent ( at least one parent being a Nepalese national) younger than 16 years of age, irrespective of nationality.


4. On arrival:
If required, a transit visa is issued by the airport immigration ofr period of 24 hours on presentation of the tickets. 
Fee: USD 5 – or equivalent in convertible currency.
Additional Information:

  • It will take considerable time to obtain a visa for other purposes than tourism as previous contact between the Nepalese representation and the Nepalese government is necessary.
  • All tourist visas are valid for Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara Valley and Tiger Tops (Meghauli airport) in Chitwan. However, if visiting other places or trekking in Nepal is involved, then permits can be obtained from the Central Immigration Office.
  • Extension of tourist stay (up to 150 days) can be arranged after arrival by applying at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or Pokhara. fee: USD 20-, plus and additional charge of USD 2, per day extended .
  • Passengers who need a visa for India and who want to visit also Nepal should hold a visa valid for 2 entries into India.
  • Nationals of India arriving form India must hold valid proof issued by competent India authorities to the effect that they are residing in India and are nationals of India. Such proof shall be in the form of and Identity Card (as advised by the Home Ministry, Kathmandu). Driver's licence is not accepted.
  • Persons wishing to re-enter into Nepal and having in their passports any previous Nepalese visas cancelled (invalidated) by the Central Immigration Office, will be refused entry and deported.

21. Not applicable to nationals of Afghanistan, Ghana, Iraq, Nigeria, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.
22 Not applicable to holders of Palestinian passports.
23 Not applicable to holders of refugee travel documents.

C. Health:

Vaccination against Yellow Fever is required if arriving within 6 days after leaving or transiting countries with infected areas. Exempt for Yellow Fever vaccination: 1. Transit passengers not leaving the airport. 2. Those not leaving the airport in the infected countries concerned. Recommended: Malaria prophylaxis. Malaria risk-mainly in the benign (P. vivax) form- exists throughout the year in rural areas of the 20 Terai districts (incl. forested hills and forest areas) bordering with India, and in parts of the inner Terai valleys of Udaypur, Sindhupalchowk, Makwanpur, Chitwan and Dang. P. falciparum resistant to chloroquine and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine-resistant p.. falciparum reported. recommendede prevention: llI

 

D. Airport Tax: 1.

Airport Tax is levied on passengers embarking in Nepal For:
a. Domestic flights at: -
Bhadrapur, Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, Jomsom, Kathmandu, Lukla, Meghauly, Nepalgunj, Pokhara and Simara : NPR 169,50- - Other domestic stations: NPR 56,50- 
b. International flights to: -
Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Pakistan or Sri Lanka: NPR 791 other countries:1,130
Place Of Payment: Ticket Issuing Office.
Exempt: 
  • Children under 10 years.

  • Holders of Diplomatic passports.

Tourism Service Fee is levied on all foreign nationals embarking at Kathmandu: NPR 565.
Place of payment: Ticket Issuing Office.

E. Customs: Import: 

Free import: 100 cigarettes or an equivalent of other tobacco articles; 1 quart of alcoholic beverages; a reasonable quantity of perfume for personal use. 
Additional Information: Nepal is a member of CITES Treaty. 
Export: Free export of personal effects previously imported and declared by the passenger. Passengers who want to export antiquities or curios are advised to consult the Curator of the Nepal Museum in Kathmandu whether or not export it is allowed. For the export of such articles also a clearance certificate from the customs is necessary. 
Pets: Cats and dogs must be accompanied by a veterianarian health and rabies certificate.
Baggage Clearance: Baggage is cleared at the airport of Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International airport of Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal upon arrival and Departure.

F. Currency: Import:

Local currency (Nepalese Rupee-NPR) and Indian currency: national of Nepal and India: unlimited and in small denominations. Other Nationalities: foreign currencies exceeding USD 2000-must be declared.
Export: Local currency (Nepalese Rupee-NPR) and foreign currencies: up to the amounts imported and declared. Only ten per cent of the amount exchanged into foreign currency at the airport upon departure.
